Yay! A new "Thing a Week" - concept drawings of a character from a project I'm working on. The animated short is about two medieval con-artists/thieves from two different backgrounds that decide to pair up for a big heist. I'll be posting up the cleaned-up versions in flash soon. Meantime, enjoy!

The MET and other things...
Been busy this week just hitting the canvas trying desperately to finish. I am at a stage where I'm between frustrated/bored and content and happy at how it's turning out. For a very morbid piece of work it sure is colorful. My lover has commented it as "candy colored monsters." I do agree. I am posting here again "the before picture" so you can get an idea what I'm rambling on about if you forgot or you're new. When it is finished, I will post again "the before and after picture" together.
This weekend I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the "5,000 Years of Japanese Art: Treasures from the Packard Collection". And a small visit to the Ming Room. Some earthenware creations were out of this world like this figure of a woman.
So epic.

I did a naughty thing this weekend.
I went to Pearl in Long Island (near Jones Beach) since according to their site, certain stores across the U.S. were having 50-75% sales. I'm assuming these places are going out of business due to the recession and I just jumped at the opportunity. I was hoping to buy the more expensive items such as pigments which would be now in the $20 rage instead of $70 or so. Alas, they were all gone but (here's my scandal) ... I did purchase a rather large canvas. And I mean HUGE. Like size of your apartment wall huge. I was just so excited seeing it, I knew I had to have it. The price for it was amazing - $40 versus $100 it normally sold for. I have no idea how I got it home since me and my lover didn't have a truck at the time. Bungie cables I think were used. We had curious stares at our car turned kite as we "flew" down the highway home, of course. What will I paint on this giant canvas? It's a mystery. Seeing it home laid out in front of me on the wall made me feel so dirty. It has a rip from the trip (which I've managed to fix with a little duct tape in the back). I'm sure it will add something to the painting later. I'm tempted to get more while this sale is going on. I think for my family and friends, this is enough of a controversy. My latest oil painting is almost done by the way. Can't say when exactly but I'm at that stage where the message is done but the detailing is a bitch. So far I've been getting so many compliments and questions of "are you selling it?!", I'm wondering, "when it's done, what to do with it?".

Mask of Red Death
Practicing using every single brush deviant art has and I think I'm getting the hang of it. Thinking of buying some gnomon workshop DVDs (one at a time because they're so expensive) for advance digital painting techniques. I'm looking for that look Blizzard's concept artists are famous for. I feel like I'm starting from zero again but I'm trying to have fun at least.
